A cat displaying the following behaviours should be first examined by a veterinarian to make sure these are not explained by medical causes.
Ø Increased urination (polyuria)
Ø Increased drinking (polydipsia)
Ø Increased appetite (polyphagia)
Ø Weight loss, especially associated with polyphagia
Ø Weakness in the back legs
Ø Loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting
Ø Licking lips
Ø Hunching over the water bowl and ‘meatloaf’ posture with head down
Ø Lethargy or weakness
Ø Sensitivity to sound
Ø Halitosis (ammonia smell)
Ø Mouth ulcers
Ø Constipation
Ø Poor hair coat
